An exciting opportunity currently exists for enthusiastic Non Accredited General Surgery Registrar to join Austin Health, in joint partnership with Northern Health in 2025 and 2026. The successful applicant will be offered an 18-month contract for the remainder of the 2025 clinical year and the entirety of the 2026 clinical year.
About the Austin Northern Training Hub (General Surgery)
The Austin Northern Training Hub is a conjoint training hub for General Surgery comprising of equal partnership between Austin Health and Northern Health with external rotations to regional Victoria, and Tasmania.
About the role
The unaccredited registrar positions in General Surgery at Austin Northern Training Hub (ANTH) are designed to fulfil the dual role of service provision for the health services and training position as a lead up to entry to SET training in General and other subspecialty surgery. The service provision role includes Night Surgical cover for both the Austin Health and Northern Health and surgical relief for General Surgery SET and Non SET trainees. This is combined with a six month rotation in General Surgery which provides a training opportunity as well as allow completion of the minimum requirements for entry to SET.
All Non-Accredited registrars will be allocated one six-month rotation in General Surgery as well as either a six-month term in surgical relief or three months each of Night Surgical cover and Surgical Relief.
- General Surgery: Six month terms at designated Non Accredited registrar positions. Sometimes there may be opportunities to fill empty SET positions for six months.
- Night Surgical Cover/Research role
- SET Relief registrar: Austin Health SET rotations include positions at the Austin Health, Northern Health, Bendigo, Echuca, Mildura, Sale, and Tasmanian rotations (Launceston, Hobart, Burnie and Mersey Hospitals). The positions being relieved would include Non SET and SET positions in General Surgery.
The majority of Non-Accredited registrars will be rostered to three months each of Night Surgical Cover/Research and Relieving Rotations and a single 6-month term in surgical units.
