Grade 2 Fixed term 12 month parental leave Spinal Physiotherapy Position

About The Physiotherapy department 

The position is based within Austin Health’s Physiotherapy Department which forms part of the Division of Allied Health. The Physiotherapy Department comprises about 92 EFT staff at the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.  It provides seven days per week patient clinical services and is a major clinical school for the University of Melbourne and partners with Swinburne University of Technology to provide clinical placements for graduate entry students. Research and quality and safety are major priorities of the department.  

 

About the role 

This is an exciting opportunity to build your expertise in the management of spinal cord-injured patients, including complete and incomplete traumatic injuries.  This role is part of the Victorian Spinal Cord Injury Service, and you will have the opportunity to work in a highly experienced, specialised state-wide service.  This role reports to the Grade 4 Royal Talbot Physiotherapy stream leader and works closely with a spinal rehabilitation Grade 3 physiotherapist, another Grade 2 physiotherapist, a Grade 1 physiotherapist and a Grade 2 exercise physiologist. This role sits within the broader Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Physiotherapy team of 15 people and has close links to the acute spinal cord team. 

 

A regular day will see you: 

  • Providing excellent clinical care to people with spinal cord injuries 
  • 1:1 and group sessions, including aquatic therapy 
  • Complex seating and equipment prescription 
  • Complex discharge planning including NDIS and TAC processes 
  • Supervision of Physiotherapy student placements in spinal rehabilitation unit 

 

About you 

You will have excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset. 

To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you: 

  • Current registration for practice with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) as a Physiotherapist.

  • Experience in either acute or subacute spinal cord injured patients.   
  • Enjoy working as part of a large multidisciplinary team   
  • Enjoy problem solving and are adaptable and flexible.
