About the Social Work Department

The Social Work Department aims to provide services to Austin Health patients and their families/carers which assists in the minimisation of the negative impacts of illness and hospitalisation. We aim to enhance social and emotional functioning through targeted interventions; whilst leading and excelling in research, teaching and the use of person-centred evidence-based practice.

 

About the role

If you have experience working with vulnerable people and individuals who require support for complex discharge planning, if you have skills assessing and responding to Family Violence and Child Safety risk, and / or knowledge about how to navigate NDIS and Aged Care systems, then we want you to join our team!

 

As a Grade 2 Social Worker you will be responsible for providing clinical social work services to inpatients across one or more of our Austin Health sites. You will work clinically with patients, attend family meetings and non-clinical meetings, actively contribute to teams, and undertake other duties that support the social work department and its operations.

 

Currently, we have both full-time and part-time positions available. Please indicate your preference in your cover letter. 

 

A regular day will see you:

  • Apply your social work knowledge and skills to assess, plan, and support discharge planning for patients
  • Provide adjustment to illness support to patients and families
  • Supervise Grade 1 social workers and social work students as required
  • Participate in quality improvement, service improvement and/or research

 

About you 

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to you work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.

 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • A degree in Social Work and eligible for AASW membership
  • Worked in a hospital or health related setting
  • The ability to work and contribute positively to team culture and work within a multidisciplinary environment
