  • Senior Speech Pathologist Grade 3
  • Permanent, part time opportunity working 20 hours per week   
  • Speech Pathologist within the Brain Disorders Program, providing clinical care to patients with complex care needs and dual diagnosis - Neurological and psychiatric disability

About the Brain Disorders Program

The Community Brain Disorder Assessment and Treatment Service (CBDATS), which provides assessment, short-term treatment and consultancy to consumers in the community. CBDATS is currently developing its teaching and research profile within the community nationally and internationally. The Neuropsychiatry Outpatient Clinic is a tertiary referral neuropsychiatry assessment service, based at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.

 

About the role 

This position is based within our Brain Disorders Program, part of the Specialty Mental Health Directorate and will work as part of the multidisciplinary care team under the guidance of the BDU Nurse Unit Manager and with professional supervision from the Continuing Care G4 Speech Pathologist.

 

A regular day will see you:

  • Undertaking a swallowing assessment  
  • Providing therapy as part of a goal-driven rehabilitation program 
  • Developing AAC and supported communication aides/methods to enhance care delivery and empower patients to be able to communicate their needs and be involved in their care
  • Providing education (including Point of Care education) to the wider team, family and carers, as indicated 
  • Leading a quality improvement activity   

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • Eligible for certified practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia and 7+ years of relevant clinical experience
  • Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment and management of communication and swallowing disorders
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and ability to translate this into practice
  • Experience in teaching, training and education
  • High level interpersonal skills that promote team development and engagement, and a proven ability to relate to people at all levels within an organisation
