- Fixed Term, Part-Time Parental Leave position for a Grade 3 Physiotherapist in ONJ Cancer & Wellness Centre, Chronic Disease Stream

About the Physiotherapy Department:
The Physiotherapy Department is committed to promoting the highest levels of care for our patients. In realising this goal, the department will lead and excel in research, teaching and the use of person-centred evidence-based practice. The department provides services on all three campuses of Austin Health, from the Emergency Department through to bed-based services and ongoing ambulatory care.
About the role:
Working in the Austin Health Physiotherapy department you will work collaboratively with the treating clinicians and wider physiotherapy department to provide safe, effective, patient centred care. The Grade 3 Physiotherapist at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre plays a key role in delivering evidence-based, individualised exercise interventions to oncology and haematology patients across inpatient wards and the ‘Exercise @ ONJ’ outpatient service. Working within a multidisciplinary team, this senior clinician provides specialised care, supports junior staff, supervises students and leads clinical practice in alignment with national guidelines that positions exercise as a core component of cancer care. This role also involves service development, telehealth delivery and providing operational support, contributing to improved patient outcomes and the integration of best-practice care into every stage of the cancer journey.
A day in the role will see you
- Pre-Exercise Screening and Physical Assessments: Conduct thorough assessments to determine each patient’s physical capabilities and limitations before engaging in exercise programs.
- Supervised Exercise Groups: Lead and supervise exercise groups in the Exercise Physiologist-led gym
- Be a leader within the ONJ oncology service assisting with Quality and innovation.
- Provide supervision and clinical mentoring to less experienced (rotating) physiotherapists as part of their clinical practice and physiotherapy department wide supervision plan

About you:

We are also looking for:
- Demonstrated knowledge of assessment and clinical reasoning skills including differential diagnosis for symptoms associated with cancer and its treatment.
- A strong understanding of acute, sub-acute and community resources available to facilitate;
- Appropriate physiotherapy, including timely follow-up / discharge
- On-referral to appropriate clinical specialty area (internal / external)
- Best practice, evidence-based care for cancer outpatients
- Ability to provide clinical support, training, and education to rotating physiotherapists within the ONJ clinical setting.
