About the Physiotherapy Department
The Physiotherapy Department comprises approximately 114 EFT staff at the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre. Clinical A physiotherapy clinical service is provided seven days per week, 12 hours per day to acute and aged care inpatient areas as well as outpatient and community services. There is also a seven day a week primary care service for soft tissue injuries in the Emergency Department
About the role
As the Senior Physiotherapist, you will be recognised as a leader in the provision of early rehabilitation in an acute setting with an interest in Neurosurgery/Amputees and Neurology. You will be a leader in building and contributing to knowledge and will encourage teaching, research and mentoring within the Early Rehabilitation clinical stream.
A regular day will see you:
- Deliver expert assessment and evidence-based early rehabilitation for patients with neurological, neurosurgical, and general rehabilitation needs.
- Provide consultation to the multidisciplinary team regarding complex discharge planning and clinical issues.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, students, and Allied Health Assistants.

You will be someone with excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills, and have a commitment to quality, best practice, and environmental safety.
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- Current registration with AHPRA.
- Advanced clinical knowledge and skills in acute early rehabilitation and neurological physiotherapy.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, teaching, and mentoring.
- A passion for developing services and contributing to research and quality improvement.
