About Radiation Oncology

Austin Health Radiation Oncology at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Centre) is committed to providing a service that embraces new technology, new techniques, and new ways of treating each patient so that the best outcome can be achieved. The ONJ Centre and the Ballarat Austin Radiation Oncology Centre (BAROC) partner to provide radiotherapy services across the northeastern Melbourne and Grampians regions with a holistic approach to cancer and supportive care. Austin Health also provides remote consultations and a superficial skin treatment service at the Stawell Austin Radiation Oncology Service (SAROS). The ONJ Centre has state of the art equipment and facilities including Siemens CT Simulator with Vision RT 4DCT, 1 Unity Linac, 3 Elekta Linacs, Monaco TPS,  6 DOF couches, ABC breath hold, and Brainlab Exactrac imaging. Mosaiq is our core ONJ OIS, while programs such as MIM Maestro and Mobius FX & 3D support our work. The brachytherapy service is supported by a Flexitron HDR treatment unit and Oncentra planning with MRI simulation and a WoMED T-200 provides superficial/orthovoltage treatments.

About the role 

You will be called upon to carry out a range of tasks to support patient care.  This will span linacs, CT, SXRT, data restoration and dosimetry in general.

 

A regular day will see you work with senior staff to perform quality assurance on major equipment and provide support to a range of clinical staff. You will also be expected to respond to unplanned events and urgent patient care requests as they arise and communicate decisions effectively to impacted stakeholders.

 

About you 

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care.  You will be self-aware and willing and able to work independently and to escalate when needed.  You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in applying your skills and developing as a clinical physicist. 

 

You’ll further bring with you: 

  • Ability to undertake commissioning and quality assurance of major radiotherapy equipment adhering to department protocols and work instructions.
  • You will have very good time management skills and the ability to document at a scientific standard.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability in quality control and quality assurance to ensure that services are safe & effective.
  • The ability to be a team player
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts including evenings.
