About the Physiotherapy Department:
The Physiotherapy Department comprises approximately 112 EFT staff at the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre
A Physiotherapy clinical service is provided seven days per week, 12 hours per day to acute and aged care inpatient areas as well as outpatient and community services. There is a seven-day primary care service for soft tissue injuries in the Emergency Department.
The Department employs an adjunct industry fellow to Swinburne University of Technology and is responsible for 50 student placements for the Master of Physiotherapy graduate degree. It is a major clinical school for the University of Melbourne with responsibility for approximately 100 students across the three years for the Doctor of Physiotherapy graduate degree.
Clinical research is a priority of the department, supported by the University of Melbourne Chair of Physiotherapy at Austin Health.
About the role:
This role is an adjunct industry fellow in partnership with Swinburne University of Technology (SUT).
You will:
- Remain current with assessment and treatment techniques, procedures, technology and equipment used in the management of patients at Austin Health. This may require attendance at paid training sessions as negotiated with the Manager of Physiotherapy in the case of new procedures or equipment.
- Provide teaching and curriculum design in nominated physiotherapy clinical practice areas under the supervision of the Head of Physiotherapy at SUT.
- Provide teaching and curriculum design in clinical education for SUT physiotherapy students to be delivered at Austin Health.
- Consult with physiotherapy students from SUT.
- Contribute to coordination and oversight of Austin Health clinical education model for SUT physiotherapy students.
- Contribute to planning and development of ongoing physiotherapy clinical placement models for SUT students at Austin Health.
- Contribute to development, implementation and coordination of clinical education-based projects within Austin Health.
- Educational role to be undertaken under the oversight of the Course Coordinator for the Master of Physiotherapy program and in compliance with normal rules and processes at Swinburne University of Technology.
- Contribute to collaborative research across SUT and Austin Health Physiotherapy Department.
Essential knowledge and skills:
- Physiotherapist currently registered for practice in Australia (AHPRA)

- Significant physiotherapy experience of working in a tertiary level hospital
- Significant experience in teaching undergraduate and post graduate students, as well as early career physiotherapists
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven capacity to successfully work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Proven capacity to successfully work to enhance the physiotherapy team culture and environment
- Commitment to ongoing education / postgraduate education
