About the department

The Physiotherapy Department is committed to promoting the highest levels of care for our patients. In realising this goal, the department will lead and excel in research, teaching and the use of person-centred evidence-based practice. The department provides services on all three campuses of Austin Health, from the Emergency Department through to bed-based services and ongoing ambulatory care.  

 

About the role 

As a Senior Clinician Physiotherapist, you will join a dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based care. Working across Fast Track, Short Stay, Imaging Review and Back Pain Clinics, you will play a key role in optimising patient flow, enhancing clinical outcomes, and supporting safe, effective discharge planning.

Our Physiotherapy Department has a strong culture of continuing education, quality improvement and clinical excellence, supported through leadership forums, research initiatives and teaching opportunities.

 

A regular day will see you:   

  • Conduct comprehensive musculoskeletal and spinal assessments and providing treatment for patients presenting to ED
  • Liaise with medical, nursing and allied health colleagues to ensure coordinated and patient‑centred care
  • Act as a clinical resource within the ED, supporting junior staff
  • Facilitate referral pathways and follow‑up care for patients
  • Participate in continuing education, supervision, teaching, and departmental quality improvement activities
  • Contribute to a 7‑day ED physiotherapy service and adopting flexible work practices
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, risk identification, and adherence to Austin Health quality and safety processes

About you 

You are an experienced and motivated physiotherapist with excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care. You bring energy, initiative and a genuine interest in advanced musculoskeletal and spinal practice, particularly within the emergency care environment. You thrive in collaborative settings and value opportunities to continue developing your clinical expertise.

 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • A recognised Physiotherapy qualification and current registration with AHPRA
  • Significant experience in the assessment and management of musculoskeletal and spinal presentations
  • Ability to confidently provide safe, evidence‑based physiotherapy care for patients with a diverse range of acute clinical conditions
  • Strong understanding of the broader emergency department context, including interdisciplinary roles and patient pathways
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development, clinical excellence and evidence‑based practice
  • Flexibility to participate in a 7‑day service and work varying shifts as required
