About the Business Intelligence Unit
The Performance & Reporting team is part of the Business Intelligence Unit (BIU) and supports the operational areas of Austin Health with detailed dashboards and analytics. In the medium term, the team is engaged in a large data warehouse project, which involves redesigning and redeveloping reports, validating new data tables, and conducting UAT testing as part of the rebuild process to ensure effective integration and functionality. Long-term goals focus on advancing data capabilities, with a keen interest in moving towards advanced analytics and statistical analysis projects.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Intelligence Developer with strong Power BI development skills to join our team at Austin Health. As we undertake a major rebuild of our data warehouse, in Fabric, and enhance our reporting processes, we need a skilled individual who can provide accurate and timely analysis and develop interactive Power BI dashboards and reports. As a Senior Business Intelligence Developer, you will support Austin Health’s executive strategic and operational decision making through the provision of accurate and timely reporting derived from clinical and administrative datasets. This includes delivering insights on issues, trends, and opportunities derived from activity, performance and quality data and supporting skill development within the BIU team. This position reports to the Performance and Reporting Manager.
A regular day will see you:
- Contribute to timely strategic and business reporting at a whole of organisational level. This includes regular board and executive reports.
- Conduct user acceptance testing for the new data warehouse and reconciliation of externally produced reports, including extensive validations and testing scenarios to ensure data integrity and performance.
- Design and develop new, interactive dashboards to meet evolving business needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data requirements and business rules, translating these into actionable insights and reporting solutions.
- Mentor and guide junior team members in the completion of their work and supporting skill development within the BIU team
- Address ad hoc data requests, providing timely and accurate information as needed.
About you
You are someone who is passionate about leveraging business intelligence tools to drive improvements in patient care. You are skilled in understanding and addressing stakeholder needs, translating business requirements into effective data solutions. Your analytical mindset and attention to detail ensure that you consistently deliver high-quality, accurate, and actionable insights. You excel in using business intelligence tools, particularly Power BI, to create user-friendly reports and dashboards that drive informed decision-making. You thrive on finding solutions to complex analytics problems.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise at all levels of the organization
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills with good attention to detail
- Advanced SQL programming skills with demonstrated expertise in designing and optimizing complex queries.
- Strong Power BI skills with demonstrated experience in developing meaningful and useful paginated reports and dashboards.
- Strong knowledge of data modelling, designing efficient data structures, and creating effective relationships in Power BI.
- Strong knowledge with using business intelligence tools and concepts
- Knowledge and experience with tabular models, DAX, and other advanced analytics tools.
- Experience in working with large complex data sets
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Excellent organizational, time management, written and verbal skills
- Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in an appropriate Information Technology, Health or Business field
Desirable but not essential:
- Experience in health sector reporting
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and its integration with Power BI
- Understanding of Victorian public health activity-based funding models
