About the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine
The Department of Respiratory & Sleep Medicine (DRSM) is part of the Medical and Cancer Services unit. The DRSM operates a clinical service providing extensive inpatient and outpatient care. Operating within the DRSM is the Victorian Respiratory Support Service, which provides support to clients on home ventilation. The DRSM also operates a Sleep Laboratory and a Respiratory Laboratory. The Respiratory Laboratory is a key component of the DRSM and provides a comprehensive, tertiary level, diagnostic laboratory service to the Austin Hospital and the wider community.
About the role
This position, 3 days per week and ongoing, is primarily responsible for performing routine and some of the more complex respiratory function testing within the laboratories, while demonstrating high standards of laboratory measurement and patient care. Working at satellite laboratories may be required. Active involvement in the laboratory quality assurance program is also required.
A regular day will see you:
- Perform routine and some of the more complex respiratory function tests (including cardiopulmonary exercise testing) as required.
- Be involved in the conduct of an effective quality assurance program.
- Participate in training, education and professional development programs for staff.
About you
As the Respiratory Scientist, You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:
- Significant knowledge and experience across a broad area of respiratory physiology and lung function testing.
- Experience conducting cardiopulmonary exercise tests
- Relevant under-graduate qualifications.
- Ability to work both independently and effectively in a team
