- We are seeking a Grade 1 Medical Scientist to join the Anatomical Pathology team at Austin Health
- Fixed term parental leave cover until March 2026
- Full time position working 40 hours per week with a monthly ADO

About Austin Health Pathology
The department of Anatomical Pathology provides services to over 20 public hospitals in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. It is the one of the largest public Anatomical Pathology departments in Victoria.
About the role
The Department of Anatomical Pathology are seeking a Grade 1 Medical Scientist (temporary parental leave backfill until March 2026) evening shift, full time to rotate through routine Histology, IHC, frozen sections and surgical cut-up. The Grade 1 Scientist is expected to become proficient in all aspects of either Histology or Cytology and participate fully in all rosters, including on-call (for Scientists in Histology).
As a Grade 1 Medical Scientist at Austin Health, you will work collaboratively with a supportive team of professionals including technicians, scientists and pathologists. You’ll enjoy our continuing education and quality improvement strategies.
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills and strong commitment to improving your technical skills. You’ll have an appropriate qualification in and previous experience in a laboratory setting is essential.
You’ll further have:
- Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine degree, or alternative/equivalent science degree recognised by AIMS, AACB, AAM or ASC
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritise and to cope with stressful and emergency situations
- Ability to cope with continuous change • Use of Microsoft Office, and other IT systems
- Professional approach to enhance patient care and provision of pathology services.
