About the Department
Austin Health has a strong record of providing excellent advanced training in geriatric medicine. We pride ourselves on offering a broad range of clinical opportunities, innovation in Models of Care and a supportive environment in which to foster both the professional and personal development of our ATs. As part of the Northern Training Alliance, Austin Health appoints our ATs in conjunction with our alliance partners – Northern Health and Bendigo Health. We prioritise mentoring and there is a strong history of subsequent recruitment and retention in areas including research fellowships and community outreach roles as models are progressively developed by alliance members.
About the role
An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Medical Practitioner to join our Aged Care Unit for an immediate start. ATs are offered a personalised roster which includes 3 rotations for the year across acute, sub-acute and community programs at Austin Health and Northern Health. There is also one position at Bendigo Health, with some role flexibility. In 2025, we are adding new rotations in dementia/BPSD outreach at Austin Health and in Aged Psychiatry at Northern Health.
A regular day will see you:
- Provide excellent, person-centred care to a diverse range of patients with geriatric syndromes.
- Work in a multi-disciplinary team to manage patient’s health conditions and disabilities.
- Supervise and teach junior medical staff.
- Have access to the Victorian Geriatric Medicine Training Program, recognised as a leader in education in Aged Care.
- Participate in quality and research projects aimed at improving care and expanding your knowledge.
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skills in assessing and managing the health problems of older people.
You’ll further bring with you:
- A passion for learning and for providing the best care to older people.
- Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Geriatric Medicine. An expectation that applicants will have passed the FRACP Part 1 examination.
- Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) - (note eligible applicants will be assisted through this process).
