About Day Oncology at Home (DOAH)/Day Oncology

The Day Oncology unit of 21 treatment chairs, 2 beds and 4 Day Oncology at Home Cars, is a Monday to Friday ambulatory cancer service.  It is staffed by nurses providing expert nursing care and support for patients and their families in the administration of cancer therapeutics both on site and in their homes.

 

About the role 

An exciting opportunity exists for experienced cancer nurses to join our Day Oncology at Home team. Permanent full time and part time positions, with 48hours per week available Monday to Friday. As an Austin Health Nurse, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of evidence-based nursing care to haematology and oncology patients at home and onsite, in order to optimise health outcomes for the community.   

 

A regular day will see you:   

  • Administration of systemic cancer therapies and provision of supportive care to patients in their home and onsite
  • Support a philosophy of care, which is patient focused, from admission to discharge, and where the family is welcome in the carers team   
  • Ensure the well-being and safety of DOAH staff and patients by following the values and principles, which underpin best practice in relation to patient care, education and patient rights   
  • Achieve and maintain the skills necessary, through personal professional development, to plan, prioritize and implement holistic patient care

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Registered Nurse registration  
  • Acute clinical experience and knowledge in a cancer setting 
  • Chemotherapy, IV Cannula and CVAD competency 
  • A commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety   
  • The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
