About Ward 5 West Respiratory/Ventilation Weaning Unit
Ward 5 West is a 28-bed acute medical ward belonging to the Division of Medical Services. The Service consists of the following areas: Respiratory High Dependency Unit (HDU), The Victorian Respiratory Support Service (VRSS), The Ventilation Weaning Unit (VWU), Sleep Laboratory and Infectious Diseases Unit. 5 West cares for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), respiratory failure, chest infections and Asthma.
About the role
As a Registered Nurse in Ward 5 West, you will be responsible for delivering evidence-based nursing care in designated medical specialties to optimize community health outcomes. You will be supported to provide specialised respiratory care to patients who would otherwise be cared for in an ICU environment.
A regular day will see you:
- Support a philosophy of care, which is patient focused, from admission to discharge, and where the family is welcome in the carers team
- Ensure the well-being and safety of patients by following the values and principles, which underpin best practice in relation to patient care, education, and patient rights
- Achieve and maintain the skills necessary, through professional development, to plan, prioritise and implement holistic patient care
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Registered Nurse registration
- Acute clinical experience and knowledge in respiratory nursing
- Meet the selection criteria within the position description
- A commitment to quality, best practice and environmental safety
- The ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
