About Nurse Pool

The Nurse Pool position is a role that sees the nursing staff member working across multiple departments across all Austin Health campuses on a 24/7 rotating roster. The Nurse Pool staff may be allocated to work in either:

  • Acute
  • Continuing Care
  • Mental Health – if applicable
  • Specialty areas (e.g. ICU, Emergency, Perioperative, Paediatrics) for those with relevant experience and/or qualifications.

 

Allocation of shifts to Nurse pool staff will be managed by the Austin Health Nursing Workforce Unit. Shifts will be allocated according to organisational requirements on a shift by shift basis.

 

About the role

The Nursing Workforce is providing a unique opportunity for Permanent Grade 2 Registered Nurses to join Nurse Pool on a permanent or fixed term basis. As part of the Nurse Pool Team, you will gain a new perspective of the organisation, and develop your skills and knowledge in specialty areas across all campuses. This position continues to offer the security and benefits of contracted hours and leave entitlements that you currently enjoy. You will also be supported by the Clinical Nurse Educator for the Nursing Workforce Unit. 

 

Successful applicants will possess a patient- centred approach to care delivery and enjoy the challenge of working in a new environment each day. Austin Pool nurses are an important part of the organisation and are the face of Austin Health’s Workforce team. 

 

A regular day will see you:

  • Practice within current scope of practice in accordance with legislation and policy 
  • Practise in a way that acknowledges the dignity, culture, values, beliefs and rights of individuals /groups and aligning to Austin Health’s organisational values. 
  • Act as an advocate for patients within organisational and management structures of Austin Health. 
  • Understand Registered Nurses accountability in the supervision and delegation framework.  

 

About you

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • Work to a centrally managed roster that is coordinated by the Nursing Workforce Unit.  
  • Have the flexibility to work within a 24/7 rotating roster across a variety of clinical settings. 
  • Possess exceptional communication skills 
  • Have a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia 
  • Be a current Austin Health employee on a permanent contract, at 0.6 EFT or above. 
  • Provide current manager as a reference who supports application
