About the Endoscopy department
The Endoscopy Service is part of the Surgery and Procedural Medicine (SAPM) Division at Austin Health. The service comprises a total of six procedure rooms and treats over 9000 patients per year. Four procedure rooms are located within a standalone Endoscopy Unit, built in 2026, specifically designed to support both high-volume day surgery procedures and complex interventional endoscopy within a dedicated, purpose-built environment.
The department delivers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), capsule endoscopy, and manometry studies.
About the role
Join the Austin Health Endoscopy Service as a Registered Nurse and play an important role in delivering safe, high-quality and person-centred care to patients undergoing a broad range of diagnostic, therapeutic and emergency procedures. You’ll work as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team across a busy service, with opportunities to develop your clinical skills across general and advanced endoscopy.
A regular day will see you:
- Preparing and assessing patients before their endoscopic procedure and planning care according to their individual needs.
- Providing intra-procedural nursing support, including patient monitoring, medication administration and assisting clinicians during procedures.
- Preparing patients for discharge, recognising and responding to changes in their condition and supporting safe discharge.
- Reprocessing and handling endoscopic equipment in accordance with infection prevention and reprocessing standards.
- Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and contributing to education, quality improvement and the ongoing development of the Endoscopy Service.
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and experience in endoscopy, perioperative or another procedural care setting.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to recognise and respond to changing patient needs.
- A commitment to safe, high-quality and person-centred care and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A willingness to learn and develop your skills across a diverse range of endoscopic procedures, including advanced procedures.
- Flexibility to work across Austin Health sites and participate in the required on-call roster.
