About Radiology department 

The main Department of Radiology is located on Levels 1 and 2 of the Lance Townsend Building, Austin Hospital. The Department comprises 21 diagnostic Staff Radiologists, 9 Interventional Radiologists including 3 Neurointerventional Radiologists, 4 Visiting Radiologists and 25 Radiology Registrars/Fellows. 

The Body/Hepatobiliary Radiology Fellowship typically involves a majority of diagnostic imaging, although some interventional experience can be incorporated on request. The Fellow will become experienced and competent in the interpretation and assessment of all forms of hepatobiliary imaging (US, CEUS, intraoperative US, CT and MRI) including advanced techniques. 

Austin Health is the state Liver Transplant Unit for Victoria and Tasmania, and as such, has a large liver unit with a large number of Hepatobiliary patients. The Hepatobiliary Radiologists work very closely with the Hepatologists, Hepatobiliary Surgeons and Oncologists to ensure very high levels of care. 

 

About the role

The HPB Fellow is expected to run the weekly Hepatocellular Carcinoma and HPB Cancer Multidisciplinary meetings. They will also attend MDMs with the Liver Transplant Unit. The fellow will also be trained in liver transplant radiology, and will gain extensive experience in pre-transplant assessment, as well as perioperative and post-transplant imaging. 

Participation in both clinical audit and research is expected and required. Teaching of Registrars, resident staff and medical students is expected. 

Rostering is modality based, with exposure to MR, CT, US and ED radiology, as well as sessions at the outpatient facility, the Repatriation General Hospital. All fellows will receive academic time for meeting preparation. There is an on-call requirement, which includes night duty.

  • Medical Registration in Australia  
  • Have passed the Part II exam of the RANZCR or equivalent
