Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and statewide. We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our goal to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.
About the Department - Ballarat Austin Radiation Oncology Centre (BAROC)
BAROC is a boutique regional radiotherapy service with a dedicated team of on-site radiation therapists, radiation oncology medical physicists, nursing and administrative staff.
BAROC is in the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC), servicing patients from the Grampians Region of Victoria. BRICC is a purpose-built regional cancer centre, also inclusive of a Wellness Centre. We work closely with colleagues in Medical Oncology, Surgery and Haematology at Grampians Health Services (GH) as well as local private clinicians to offer the best evidence-based care to patients, supported by regular Multidisciplinary Meetings co-ordinated by Grampians Integrated Cancer Services.
BAROC has strong linkages with Metropolitan Tertiary Cancer Centres, particularly Austin Health Radiation Oncology (AHRO) with whom we share dedicated Chart Rounds providing support and shared expertise in the treatment of Head & Neck and Gynaecological malignancies, as well as Stereotactic Techniques (intracranial and extracranial). In addition, the Statewide MR Linac service is located at AHRO.
BAROC is equipped with two Varian Trilogy linear accelerators (to be replaced with Varian Truebeam linear accelerators during 2025/2026), Siemens CT simulator, and will soon introduce superficial radiotherapy (SXRT) onsite. We provide an outreach service, including SXRT, fortnightly to Stawell. We operate on an Aria 15 Electronic Medical Record and Elekta Monaco Planning System. We offer a diverse range of treatment techniques - including DIBH, IMRT / VMAT, lung SABR– and an established research program including multiple quality improvement initiatives, and an expanding clinical trial portfolio.
