About the Surgical Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine Division 

The Surgical Anaesthesia and Procedural Medicine Division (SAPM) is part of the Operations Directorate at Austin Health. SAPM manages a number of specialties and services including theatres, Central Sterilising Services Department (CSSD), outpatients and the surgical wards at the Austin or Heidelberg Repatriation Hospitals. 

 

SAPM promotes a culture of delivering quality patient care, whilst providing a broad range of elective and acute surgical procedures including Liver and Renal Transplant and Cardiac Surgery. Other surgical specialties include Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Plastics, Vascular, Thoracic, Urology, ENT, Paediatrics, General Surgery, HPB, UGI, Endoscopy and Radiology Services. 

 

 

About the role 

As the Patient Support Unit - Planned Procedures Project Lead, you will play a key role in improving access, experience and outcomes for patients undergoing planned surgery. Working closely with clinical and operational stakeholders, you will lead pathway redesign, implement evidence-based models of care, and drive sustainable improvements across the perioperative journey. 

 

This will include: 

  • Leading the planning, delivery and evaluation of key initiatives aligned with divisional and organisational priorities. 
  • Driving quality and operational improvements across the perioperative journey through pathway redesign, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery initiatives, surgical conversion programs and other evidence-based models of care. 
  • Coordinating the development, implementation, education and review of evidence-based clinical pathways, policies and guidelines. 
  • Developing and maintaining project plans, timelines, performance reports and key performance indicators. 
  • Providing expert, evidence-based advice on operational, clinical and administrative processes. 
  • Applying change management methodologies to embed innovation, foster continuous improvement, and utilise data to inform decision-making and reporting.    

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • Tertiary qualifications and clinical experience in nursing, allied health or a related healthcare discipline. 
  • Experience implementing evidence-based clinical pathways, models of care or service improvement initiatives within a healthcare setting. 
  • Strong project management experience with a proven track record of delivering complex healthcare improvement initiatives. 
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence and drive change across multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies, change management frameworks and governance structures within a healthcare setting. 
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to identify trends, measure performance and support continuous improvement. 
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
