• Grade 3 Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist – Outpatients 
• Fixed-Term (Sept 2026 – June 2027), Part-Time (0.4 FTE) 15.2 Hours

About the Physiotherapy department

The Physiotherapy Department comprises approximately 116 EFT staff at the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre. Clinical A physiotherapy clinical service is provided seven days per week, 12 hours per day to acute and aged care inpatient areas as well as outpatient and community services.  There is a seven-day primary care service for musculoskeletal injuries in the Emergency Department.    

The Physiotherapy Outpatient Service operates within the Health and Rehabilitation Centre (HRC), delivering comprehensive care through individual assessments, tailored treatments, and a range of evidence-based group programs in both our gym and aquatic settings. The service maintains strong collaborative partnerships across specialist clinics within Austin Health, with a particular focus on Orthopaedics, and includes several embedded Advanced Physiotherapy Practice roles. 

About the role 

The primary purpose will be to provide specialist clinical care to musculoskeletal outpatients through our Physiotherapy outpatient programs.  

This appointment will also support the Physiotherapy Outpatient service to provide.

• Clinical support, training and education to both grade 1 and grade 2 physiotherapists within the Musculoskeletal / Orthopaedic outpatient setting
• A comprehensive program of student supervision/education for University of Melbourne DPT (Musculoskeletal) and other university partners

A regular day will see you:   

• Utilise specialist knowledge to undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessment and consultation relevant to musculoskeletal outpatients
• Model best-practice, patient- centred musculoskeletal physiotherapy in the provision of outpatient care
• Remain current with evidence-based physiotherapy treatment options / techniques and procedures relevant to musculoskeletal outpatients
• Evaluate and identify patient goals, outcomes and expected level of function to facilitate timely and appropriate clinical intervention in the context of a diverse and complex musculoskeletal caseload
• Provide specialist advice and communicate with other health professionals and/or institutions regarding musculoskeletal outpatient assessment findings, outcomes and management plans
• Support the regular use of evidence-based outcome measures within musculoskeletal / orthopaedic clinical populations
• Act as clinical resource for colleagues or staff in their profession/discipline in relation to complex musculoskeletal cases, including providing secondary consultation 

About you 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

• Physiotherapist currently registered for practice in Australia (AHPRA). 
• Significant clinical experience in the provision of outpatient musculoskeletal physiotherapy

• Demonstrated specialist knowledge of assessment and clinical reasoning skills including differential diagnosis for peripheral and spinal musculoskeletal conditions

• Experience and/or proven capability to deliver clinical supervision to junior (grade 1 or grade 2) physiotherapists
