Grade 3 Casual Physiotherapist

Austin Health Emergency Department
Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and statewide. We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our goal to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.
About the Physiotherapy Department
The Physiotherapy Department is committed to promoting the highest levels of care for our patients. In realising this goal, the department will lead and excel in research, teaching and the use of person-centred evidence-based practice. The department provides services on all three campuses of Austin Health, from the Emergency Department through to bed-based services and ongoing ambulatory care.
About the role
The Casual Grade 3 Physiotherapist is a senior clinician who contributes high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy services within the Emergency Department (ED), including Fast-Track and the Short Stay Unit. This role supports the department’s dynamic, fast-paced acute care environment by providing flexible, expert clinical support as required.
As part of the multidisciplinary team, the casual clinician plays a key role in the assessment, treatment, and management of a diverse patient population, ensuring timely and effective physiotherapy interventions that support safe discharge, functional recovery, and optimal patient outcomes.
A day in the role will see you:
- Deliver advanced clinical physiotherapy services during rostered shifts, working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Provide expert advice and support within their area of clinical expertise, contributing to best-practice patient care.
- Model collaborative, inter-professional practice and demonstrate leadership in clinical decision-making.
- Engage in informal support and guidance of junior staff and students where appropriate during clinical shifts.
- Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and apply current evidence to clinical care.
This role reports to the Deputy Director of Emergency and may be required to work flexibly across shifts and campuses in line with service demand. While not holding ongoing responsibilities for supervision or service development, the casual clinician is expected to uphold the high standards of care and professionalism aligned with Austin Health’s values and clinical excellence.
About you
You are an experienced physiotherapist with a strong background in advanced musculoskeletal practice, particularly within the Emergency Department setting. You bring enthusiasm, clinical expertise, and a flexible approach to your work, thriving in fast-paced environments where every day is different.
A confident and effective communicator, you build rapport easily with patients, colleagues, and stakeholders alike. You are passionate about delivering high-quality care and are committed to collaborative, person-centred practice. You take pride in contributing to a multidisciplinary team and strive to achieve the best outcomes for patients through shared decision-making and evidence-informed interventions.
