About the Physiotherapy Department

The Physiotherapy Department is committed to promoting the highest levels of care for our patients. In realising this goal, the department will lead and excel in research, teaching and the use of person-centred evidence-based practice. The department provides services on all three campuses of Austin Health, from the Emergency Department through to bed-based services and ongoing ambulatory care.

 

About the role 

As the Grade 2 Physiotherapist, you will work in a rotational capacity, consisting of 6-month rotations across the acute, sub-acute and community streams across Austin Health. This is a unique opportunity to continue to develop clinical skills and expertise in caring for older adults with geriatric syndromes across the continuum of care from admission through to the community setting. This role provides rotations across acute general medicine, better at home acute, acute gerontology and sub- acute care with the potential to expand to the emergency department as part of frailty at the front door initiative. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary teams to provide evidence-based intervention and gain skills in complex discharge planning, whilst developing a broad physiotherapy skillset which will support future career speciality.

 

In this position, you will manage a diverse and complex caseload, with a particular focus on geriatrics, frailty, falls prevention and chronic disease management. Austin Health focuses on a home first approach supporting the patient to navigate risks and autonomy in their decision making. You’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced acute setting.

 

A regular day will see you:   

  • Assessing, treating and managing risks for patients within your rotational area to optimise patient outcomes and support discharge planning.
  • Be an active member of the multidisciplinary team to advocate for the role of physiotherapy in the patient's treatment and progressing patient treatment plans.
  • Providing clear transparent communication to clients, carers, and the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a coordinated shared decision-making approach is delivered.
  • Support the caseload across the team and provide clinical support and supervision to junior staff members as required.

 

About you 

We are seeking a clinician who is dedicated and passionate about providing excellent patient care to our most complex, vulnerable older adults. This Grade 2 Physiotherapist will have clinical experience and knowledge in managing and caring for frail, complex older adults within a dynamic hospital system.

 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • Physiotherapist currently registered for practice in Australia (APHRA)
  • Relevant clinical experience in the provision of evidence-based patient care for inpatient general medicine and geriatric cohorts.
  • Understanding of continuum of care across the hospital system.
  • Capability to deliver clinical training to undergraduate/DPT students during clinical placements
  • Capability to deliver clinical supervision for Grade 1 and AHA staff.
  • Current driver's license
