About the Department

The Physiotherapy Department is committed to promoting the highest levels of care for our patients. In realising this goal, the department will lead and excel in research, teaching and the use of person-centred evidence-based practice. The department provides services on all three campuses of Austin Health, from the Emergency Department through to bed-based services and ongoing ambulatory care.  

 

About the role 

The Grade 2 physiotherapist delivers high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy services to patients with chronic and complex health conditions, supporting improved function, self-management, and quality of life within a multidisciplinary framework. Services include pre and post liver transplantation, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs and oncology outpatients. 

 

A regular day will see you:

  • Provide expert physiotherapy assessment and management of older adults with frailty and complex medical presentations. 
  • Support and guide team members to deliver best-practice, person-centred care. 
  • Lead discussions with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team on care goals, discharge plans, and dignity of risk. 
  • Liaise across services to ensure safe and coordinated discharges from hospital to home or community settings. 
  • Contribute to service development, research, and quality improvement initiatives within the department. 
  • Supervise and support junior staff, allied health assistants, and students. 
  • Actively engage in professional development, journal clubs, and evidence translation activities. 

 

About you 

To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

  • Experience (minimum 3 years recommended) in providing physiotherapy within chronic disease management or related areas (e.g. cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, rehabilitation) 
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary or community-based models of care 
  • Experience in the use of telehealth for patient assessment and intervention 
  • Strong understanding of chronic disease pathophysiology and evidence-based management strategies 
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, assessment, and treatment planning skills 
  • Ability to tailor exercise and rehabilitation programs to individual client needs and limitations 
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
