About the department:

The Austin Hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) is a quaternary level unit and referral centre with advanced capabilities including extra-corporeal membranous oxygenation (ECMO). The ICU provides specialised care for patients requiring liver and intestinal transplantation, patients with spinal cord injuries and patients requiring prolonged ventilator weaning. The physiotherapy team within the Physiotherapy Department that works in the ICU has specialised skills to manage patients with critical illness, is commonly involved in cutting edge research and is a hub for teaching and training in these specialised areas.

 

About the role:

  • A regular day will see you:
  • Receive handover for patients in the ICU, identify physiotherapy problems, triage the caseload, provide physiotherapy treatments for patients with critical illness and provide teaching and training to grade 1 staff and students.
  • Assist with in-hospital physiotherapy management of acute and deteriorating patients including but not limited to the Spinal Ward, the Ventilation Weaning Unit and the Intensive Care Unit
  • Participate in active research projects in conjunction with the Physiotherapy and Intensive Care Departments.

 

About you:

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • At least 1 years’ experience in providing clinical care to patients with critical illness
  • Previous experience in the management of cardio-respiratory patients including well developed skills in assessment and rehabilitation
  • Previous experience and skills in teaching and training.
  • Capacity to work well with other members of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate clinical, organizational, program development, leadership and evaluation and supervision skills.
