About the Secure Extended Care Unit

The Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU) is part of the Mental Health Division at Austin Health. SECU is a 25-bed regional service which provides a rehabilitation and recovery service to individuals aged between 18-64 years with severe, unremitting mental health symptoms and complex needs and who need the support of a secure environment. The SECU provides therapeutic care in a contained and structured environment. Occupational Therapy in SECU provides psychosocial assessments and interventions, and assists in supporting the long-term recovery for clients and their family.

About the role

As the Occupational Therapist, you will work with patients who have complex functional and psychosocial needs to achieve their long term wellness and recovery goals, using evidenced based Occupational Therapy interventions and assessments.

A regular day will see you:

  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to actively support patients’ access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with the aim of patients returning to their communities.
  • Participating in quality supervision and training.
  • Contributing to a positive workplace culture that prioritises wellbeing and personal growth in a supportive team environment.

About you

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You are someone who wants to make a difference for patients in a secure metal health inpatient setting; you’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your occupational therapy skills and profile on the unit.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

  • Relevant qualification as an Occupational Therapist (as detailed in the position description)
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
