About Medical and Cancer Services
Austin Health is one of the largest cancer service providers in Victoria. A complete range of services are delivered to patients and their families, including medical oncology, clinical haematology, radiation oncology (Austin Health and BHS), cancer genetics, palliative care, wellness and supportive care programs, an active volunteer program and specialist cancer surgery (managed via a separate CSU). These are all provided in an environment that integrates research, teaching, and training.
All Austin Health metropolitan-based Cancer Services are now delivered within the Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness (ONJ Centre) at the Austin Hospital. This state-of-the-art facility provides a new model of individualised cancer care for patients and their families.
Clinical Services are provided in a range of inpatient and ambulatory settings. Inpatient services include an acute oncology/clinical haematology ward, an oncology/surgical oncology ward and a palliative care ward. Ambulatory services include Radiation Oncology, Day Oncology, Apheresis, and multidisciplinary cancer clinics.
Ward 6 South is an acute 32 bed Oncology (24beds) and Urology (8beds) unit based in the ONJ Wellness centre with a focus on Medical oncology and Urological surgical procedures.
About the role
The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is recognised as the leader of the nursing team who models the core values of Austin Health, through effective leadership and management of the clinical nursing and support staff.
The NUM will set the standard for nursing care, through utilising evidence-based practice and innovation (with clinical acumen in oncology nursing), whilst ensuring that the nursing care meets the professional, organisational, legal, an ethical standards to optimise health outcomes for the community.

About you
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- Registered Nurse Division 1 (General) registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Relevant Post-Graduate Qualification in Nursing, Management or equivalent, (or working towards).
- Highly experienced in cancer and surgical nursing (3+ years).
- Patient-centred approach to evidence-based care delivery.
