About the Intensive Care Unit

Our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides multidisciplinary care to a wide variety of critically ill patients, in a highly technological environment, with an emphasis on the care of family and friends during a stressful time in their lives.

 

ICU is a 35-bed unit with 29 ICU equivalent beds funded. We provide state-wide and Tasmanian specialty service for liver transplant, fulminant liver failure, spinal cord injuries and the Victorian Respiratory Support Service (VRSS). In addition to this we are also specialists in cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, general medical, surgery and obstetrics ICU care.

 

The unit has a strong culture of innovation, change and research with our staff receiving recognition both nationally and internationally.

 

About the role

As the Nurse Unit Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and setting the clinical care standards within the ICU. You will work in partnership with the Director of ICU and have an active role in the achievement of key performance indicators and activity targets for the unit, as well as being accountable for the Nursing, Clinical Support Services and Clerical workforces.

 

You will support excellence in clinical practice and promotes the development of nurses, and the support team, ensuring the philosophy of nursing and standards of practice are consistently reflected in professional practice and patient care.

 

A regular day will see you:

 

  • Monitoring and drive operational management activities and performance related to high quality care
  • Set the direction for the development and implementation of programs to complement and innovate new and existing services.
  • Supporting professional learning and development opportunities for the team
  • Promote and deliver the core values of nursing at Austin Health, by ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all staff, patients, their families and carers.
  • Foster a positive culture, drive change, a safe working environment and the effective utilisation of financial resources within a cycle of continuous service improvement. 

About you

We are on the search for a dynamic and enthusiastic Nurse Unit Manager, who will bring with them:

 

  • Experience as a registered nurse with capabilities to drive positive change
  • Leadership skills to drive and manage a large team to provide best quality care to patients
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working collaboratively with others
  • Experience in budget management and delivering department and organisational key performance indicators
  • Post graduate nursing qualification in critical care nursing or equivalent.
