  • Fixed term, full time or part time opportunity until August 2026
  • Evening shift working at the Heidelberg campus

About the Anatomical Pathology department 

The Anatomical Pathology department is 24/7 Monday to Saturday. Being a public pathology service, cases can be complex with transplant and urgent biopsies as well as frozen sections throughout the day. The team consists of laboratory assistants, technicians and medical scientists and there are varied task based rosters including, routine histology, Cytology, IHC, cut-up, frozen section, data entry and laboratory support rosters.

 

About the role 

As a Grade 1 Medical Laboratory Technician you will be expected to perform Routine Histology including embedding, microtomy, special stains and IHC, laboratory support and data entry as well as frozen sections.

 

A regular day will see you:   

  • Histology - Perform routine technical duties including embedding, microtomy and frozen sectioning and IHC.
  • Cytology - Specimen preparation of gynaecological and non-gynaecological samples and FNA attendance
  • Mortuary – Deceased patient management including releases and viewings, perinatal and adult autopsies and POC for cremation and return to patient tissues
  • Basic operation including loading and unloading of automated IHC and Special staining instruments.
  • Quality control and send out activities involving H&E and routine special stains.
  • General laboratory tasks such as housekeeping, maintenance, filing, clerical activities, data entry and specimen transport duties.

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • Certificate or Associate Diploma Applied Science (Medical Laboratory) a Certificate, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Operations, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tasks that involve manual dexterity.
  • Good communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in an Anatomical Pathology laboratory is desirable but not essential.
  • Competence in routine Histology would be advantageous.
