About the Microbiology department

Microbiology utilises state of the art automation and technologies as well conventional manual methodology to generate clinically valuable information for diagnosis and treatment of infections.

 

About the role 

Medical Laboratory Technicians are responsible for perfomring a broad range of relevant laboratory services.

 

A regular day will see you:   

  • Process all specimen types both on automated systems and manually.
  • Participate in the development and use of new technologies including Kiestra WCA, MALDI-ToF MS, antimicrobial resistance testing and molecular diagnostics.
  • Provide basic technical advice on Microbiology principles to staff.
  • Work with the senior scientists to develop training and competency assessments for technical staff.
  • Participate in R&D projects, including presentation / publication of results
  • Perform quality control testing and documentation

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • Relevant qualifications, knowledge and experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory
  • Competency using a range of computer software
  • Experience with use of various microbiology laboratory automation systems such as Kiestra WCA, MALDI-TOF, Atellica Urine Analyser, Bactec Blood Culture System, Vitek Antibiotic Susceptibility Test System, BD Max PCR (highly considered)
  • Availability to work 24/7 rotating shifts including overnight if required. Availability to work mostly or frequent afternoon-evening shifts would be considered favourably.
