About the Department

Microbiology utilises state of the art automation and technologies as well conventional manual methodology to generate clinically valuable information for diagnosis and treatment of infections.

 

About the role 

As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will participate in the development and use of new technologies including Kiestra WCA, MALDI-ToF MS, antimicrobial resistance testing and molecular diagnostics.

 

A regular day will see you:

  • Provide basic technical advice on Microbiology principles to staff
  • Process all specimen types both on automated systems and manually
  • Participate in R&D projects
  • Manage reagents, consumables and other inventories
  • Perform quality control testing and documentation
  • Decontaminate, prepare and sterilise laboratory equipment

 

About you 

 To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

  • Relevant qualifications, knowledge and experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory including specimen set up
  • Competency using a range of relevant computer software
  • Good communication skills & ability to work efficiently both independently & in a team
  • Demonstrable time management skills with an ability to prioritise and cope with stressful situations and changing work environment.
  • Experience with use of various microbiology laboratory automation systems
  • Availability to work 24/7 rotating shifts, through day and afternoon-evening shifts; weekdays, weekends, and public holiday. Applicants should also be available to work overnight shift if required. Availability (once trained) to work mostly or frequent afternoon-evening shifts would be considered favourably.
