About the Anatomical Pathology Department

Austin Health Pathology is a dynamic and growing department within Austin Health, dedicated to delivering high-quality diagnostic services across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. The Department of Anatomical Pathology provides services to over 20 public hospitals in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. It is the one of the largest public Anatomical Pathology departments in Victoria.

 

About the role 

As the Grade 3 Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for the efficient and accurate processing of pathology requests and specimens, ensuring they are registered into the laboratory information system (LIS) promptly, instrument maintenance activities, and assisting scientific staff with testing of samples. You will work collaboratively with a supportive team of professionals including technicians, scientists and pathologists. You’ll enjoy our continuing education and quality improvement strategies. This is a permanent, part time position working 24 hours per week from 3:30pm – midnight.

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in  patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to you work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset

 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • Strong attention to detail and sound organisational skills
  • Experience in handling, sorting, and preparing pathology specimens
  • Ability to accurately register patient and specimen information into a Laboratory Information System (LIS) or equivalent system
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team to ensure efficient workflow and timely processing of samples
  • Previous experience working in a pathology or clinical laboratory environment is desirable but not essential
