About the Central Sterilizing Services Department

Austin Health Central Sterilizing Services Department (CSSD) is a dynamic and progressive department responsible for the reprocessing of reusable medical equipment for Surgery and other areas of Austin Hospital. The CSSD team is skilled, friendly, supportive and dedicated to ensuring the highest standards in the reprocessing of medical equipment. 

 

About the role 

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and experienced Instrument Technician to join our CSSD. As the Instrument Technician, you will deliver a high standard of care to all patients, by ensuring that required items are available when needed, and that processing quality and sterility are assured. This is an ongoing, part time position working 36 hours per week.

 

A regular day will see you:   

  • Demonstrate knowledge and competence in cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing reusable medical and surgical instruments and equipment used in Austin Health in accordance to AS 5369:2023 Standard
  • Ensure that sterile supplies are stored and handled according to Standard
  • Support and participate in the Austin Health OH&S procedures, with the development of safe working practices and a safe environment by actively reducing safety hazards and preventing accidents within the unit.
  • Communicate with staff to co-ordinate and priorities processing of equipment to enable the provision of optimal patient care.

 

About you 

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

  • Decontamination and Sterilization of surgical instruments in accordance with AS/NZS 4187:2014.
  • Experience or knowledge of Sterilizing Services.
  • Certificate III in Sterilizing Services.
  • Ability to work flexible rosters including night duty.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound organizational skills and capable of prioritizing work and exercising discretion within established policies, guidelines and procedures.
