About Ward 8 North 

8 North is a 32-bed ward consisting of acute and elective patients specialising in Orthopaedic and Plastics Reconstructive surgery. The Orthopaedic unit manages a wide variety of acute and elective bone related injuries including degenerative changes and traumatic fractures/injuries which require surgical or non-surgical intervention. The Plastic surgery unit performs both acute, elective reconstructive surgery and management of patients with congenital abnormalities, traumatic injuries, chronic wounds and neoplastic diseases.  

 

About the role 

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health Care Worker to temporarily join our team at Austin Health. The role reports to the Nurse Unit Manager of Ward 8 North and plays an integral role as part of the nursing team to support the provision of safe, effective and patient centered care. 

A regular day will see you: 

  • Contribute to positive patient outcomes 

  • Participate in delegated aspects of care to assist activities of daily living for selected patients, including but not limited to: 

  • assistance with personal hygiene 

  • assistance with nutritional needs 

  • assistance with mobility, transfers and positioning within the ward 

  • assistance with elimination needs 

  • Assisting with making beds and keeping the environment tidy 

  • Ensure infection control policies are always adhered to 

  • Ensure privacy and dignity is always maintained 

 

About you 

You will be someone who has established communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset. 

To be successful in this role, you will bring with you: 

 

  • A Certificate III Health Assistant (Nursing) – commenced after January 2013 

  • A patient centered approach to care 

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team
