- New Graduate Dietitian (Grade 1) opportunity, Start date 2 Dec 2024, End date 1 Dec 2026
- 24 month fixed term full time position, 40 hours per week plus monthly ADO
- Two rotations – first 12 months at the subacute campus, second 12 months at the acute campus
- Heidelberg location, close to multiple public transport options
- Pay range as per classification AI1 to AI7 $32.11 to $45.71 per hour+ generous salary packaging + super + higher qualification allowance if applicable.

About the Nutrition and Dietetics Department
Austin Health’s Allied Health division employs over 1,000 health professionals across 27 disciplines, broadly known as the therapies and sciences, who work as key members of the multidisciplinary team aiming to provide the best outcomes for patients via preventing, diagnosing and treating a range of healthcare conditions.
The Nutrition and Dietetics department has 50 staff members across three sites - Austin (acute care), Repat (sub-acute care) and Talbot (rehabilitation), providing services to inpatients, outpatients and home & community programs. We operate as one department and come together for staff meetings and continuing education. Our work environment is vibrant, fast paced, friendly, fun and supportive. Our team contains many highly skilled and experienced dietitians who lead our clinical teams and department portfolios. Our clinical streams are specialist medicine, ICU/surgical/gastro, oncology, paediatrics & mental health, sub-acute and ambulatory care services. We have portfolios to support the work we do in staff education, student training, quality and safety, research, nutrition support, food service, outpatient services and workforce operations.
About the role
This is a fantastic 2 year opportunity for a New Graduate Dietitian who graduated in, or after, November 2023 to grow their clinical nutrition skills in a friendly and supportive environment
In the first year you will work in our Sub-acute and Ambulatory Care Streams at the Repatriation Campus, and then in the second year you will work in our Specialist Medicine Stream at the Acute Campus. Each of these streams has an allocated Senior Dietitian as the Stream Leader. The streams are supportive, fun and are made up of a team of dietitians with varying levels of experience and specialties. In each rotation you will have an allocated experienced dietitian as your supervisor. You will have some opportunity to contribute to stream-based quality improvement initiatives or research.
Your primary workload allocation in the first year will be inpatient wards (including orthopaedic, neurology and general rehabilitation) and endocrinology outpatient clinics. Your primary workload allocation in the second year will include inpatients admitted under general medicine, cardiology, cardiac surgery, outpatient service to cardiac rehabilitation and cardiac failure groups as well as service to one of our dialysis units (offsite). Your workload allocation may vary according to operational needs across the stream and the department.
About you
To be successful in this role you will:
- Be qualified to practice as a dietitian in Australia as recognised by Dietitians Australia (DA) and meet the criteria for the Accredited Pracitising Dietitian (APD) program
- Have graduated from a Master of Dietetics course in, or after, November 2023
- Be enthusiastic, self-motivated, reflective and willing to learn
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Be hardworking with exemplar organisational skills including efficient workload management and ability to prioritise
- Have effective nutrition counselling skills and a commitment to patient centred care
