About the Gastroenterology Department
The Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is part of the Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine Division and is responsible for delivering specialist services to patients across Austin Health.
Emergency and inpatient services are based at Austin Hospital, while outpatient clinics and endoscopy services operate at both the Austin Hospital and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital. The department also provides consultative input to other units across the Medical Centre.

About the role
Austin Health is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Gastroenterology Registrar to join our dynamic and high-performing team as part of the Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine Division.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position commencing in August 2025, offering exceptional experience in both inpatient and outpatient care, advanced endoscopy, and multidisciplinary team management within a tertiary teaching hospital.
A regular day will see you:
- Deliver high-quality gastroenterology and hepatology care across inpatient, outpatient, emergency and procedural settings.
- Participate in ward rounds, clinics, endoscopy lists and consultative services.
- Engage with a multidisciplinary team of consultants, registrars, junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Support teaching activities for junior medical staff and students.
- Contribute to clinical audit, quality improvement and research initiatives.
- Participate in on-call rosters and after-hours support as required.
About you
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- General Registration with AHPRA (or eligibility)
- At least 3 years postgraduate clinical experience
- Demonstrated experience in Gastroenterology (at registrar level)
- A strong commitment to high-quality, patient-centred care
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Interest in clinical research and teaching
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency
