About the Department
The Department of Emergency Medicine is a busy tertiary department attending 72,000 patients annually offering a wide range of clinical services. In May 2005 a new purpose-built Department was opened as part of the Redevelopment of Austin with 47 treatment areas, including a six-bed paediatric area, a Fastrack area, an eight bed Short Stay Unit and a collocated satellite radiology facility. The Department is accredited for two years advanced training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and has paediatric logbook training.
The Department offers registrar rotations in ICU, anaesthetics, obstetrics and gynaecology, toxicology, general medicine, ambulatory care, psychiatry and paediatrics. The Department is the acute spinal and trauma reception area of Austin Health.
About the role
Emergency physicians have a key leadership role in the department as well as across the hospital through their collaboration and interactions with clinical teams and departments.
The role will include clinical shifts across the different areas of the department and the requirement to provide visible clinical leadership through supervision, teamwork and delivery of high-quality clinical care and optimising patient flow.
Clinical support time will be allocated based on current craft group agreements or as determined by the Director.
About you
To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:
- Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and have general registration in Australia.
- Flexibility to provide clinical excellence and leadership in the various clinical areas of the department and to support the Director and senior staff in the development of the department.
- Emergency Physicians who have qualifications in clinical toxicology or have a proven experience in clinical informatics are encouraged to apply.
