About the Nutrition and Dietetics Department 

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department is part of the Allied Health division, which employs over 1,000 health professionals across 27 disciplines, broadly known as the therapies and sciences, who work as key members of the multidisciplinary team aiming to provide the best outcomes for patients via preventing, diagnosing and treating a range of healthcare conditions.  

Our department has around 55 staff members across three sites - Austin (acute care), Repat (sub-acute care) and Talbot (rehabilitation), providing services to inpatients, outpatients and home & community programs.  We operate as one department and come together for staff meetings and continuing education. Our work environment is vibrant and fast paced and we are a friendly and supportive team. We have many highly skilled and experienced dietitians who lead our clinical teams - specialist medicine, oncology, surgical/ICU/gastro, paediatrics and mental health, sub-acute and ambulatory care, and portfolios - staff education, quality, research, student training, food service, nutrition support and workforce operations.  

About the role  

As the Grade 3 Senior NDIS HEN clinician you will work as part of the HEN team and undertake advanced practice credentialing in gastrostomy tube changes and site care. The Austin HEN team provides services to both Victorian State and NDIS-funded clients requiring Home Enteral Nutrition. 

Your primary workload allocation will be for NDIS-funded HEN clients, but you will provide backfill and support other dietitians caring for patients who require enteral nutrition post discharge. 

You will be primarily based on the Austin and Repat sites but cross campus travel may be required, and you will provide carer training at day program facilities and in residential homes. 

Your workload allocation may vary according to operational needs across the team and the department. 

You will be working 19 hours per week, ideally worked across 3-5 days a week which ideally includes Tuesday mornings. 

Working in conjunction with the Manager, HEN Service Coordinator and the broader Senior Leadership team (Grade 3 and 4 clinicians) to take a leading role in department planning and development, strategic planning, guideline review and development and quality business planning. You will be responsible for ensuring the clinical services of the (NDIS) HEN team are aligned with organisational objectives, professional standards and ethics. 

About you 

As the senior NDIS HEN clinician, you will have significant experience in Home Enteral Nutrition, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset and supporting dietitian colleagues and allied health assistants (AHAs). 

• To be successful in this role you'll bring with you: 
• At least 7 years of relevant clinical experience 
• Accredited Practising Dietitian certification and Dietitians Australia membership 
• Demonstrated expertise in Enteral Nutrition  
• Experience managing nutrition for clients with complex health conditions, and intellectual, physical, or psychosocial disabilities. 
• A passion for high standards of patient care in the home and inpatient settings 
• High level interpersonal and written communication skills  
• Excellent attention to detail 
• Demonstrated leadership skills including ability to develop junior clinicians and allied health assistants
