Grade 2, Full Time/ Part Time, Fixed Term, Paediatric and Mental Health Stream 

 

Great opportunity for a dietitian with a passion for working with patients admitted with eating disorders and patients with type 1 diabetes.  

 

  • Fixed term, Full Time/ Part Time, 38 hours per week (negotiable) 

  • Start date 3 February 2025, end date 6 February 2026 

  • Work allocation is adult and paediatric eating disorder patients, Type 1 diabetes (inpatients and outpatients), as well as adolescent and adult general mental health 

  • Primary location is Austin campus but will require cross campus travel for endocrinology outpatient clinic 

  • Pay range as per AJ1 to AJ4 classification $47.81 to $54.10 per hour + salary packaging + super + higher qualification allowance if applicable

About the Nutrition and Dietetics Department 

We are part of the Allied Health division, which employs over 1,000 health professionals across 27 disciplines, broadly known as the therapies and sciences, who work as key members of the multidisciplinary team aiming to provide the best outcomes for patients via preventing, diagnosing and treating a range of healthcare conditions.  

 

The Nutrition and Dietetics department has 50 staff members across three sites - Austin (acute care), Repat (sub-acute care) and Talbot (rehabilitation), providing services to inpatients, outpatients and home & community programs.  We operate as one department and come together for staff meetings and continuing education. Our work environment is vibrant and fast paced and we are a friendly and supportive team. We have many highly skilled and experienced dietitians who lead our clinical teams and department portfolios. Our clinical streams are specialist medicine, ICU/surgical/gastro, oncology, paediatrics & mental health, sub-acute care and ambulatory care. We have portfolios to support the work we do in staff education, student training, quality and safety, research, nutrition support, food service, outpatient services and workforce operations.  

 

About the role  

You will be based primarily on the Austin site, working as part of the Paediatrics and Mental Health stream under the direction of the Senior Clinician stream leader.   This stream includes services to the General Paediatrics unit, Child and Adolescent Mental Health service, Adult Mental health service and the Endocrinology service.  Your primary workload allocation will include adult and paediatric eating disorder patients, Type 1 diabetes (inpatients and outpatients), as well as adolescent and adult general mental health. About you  

To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:  

  • Qualifications to practice as a dietitian in Australia as recognised by Dietitians Australia (DA) and meet the criteria for the Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) program 

  • Current working with children check 

  • Sound clinical nutrition knowledge in managing patients with type 1 diabetes, eating disorders and general mental health conditions.  

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and to work effectively in a team environment.     

  • Demonstrated high-level communication skills.     

  • Effective counselling skills and commitment to patient-centred care.     

  • Demonstrated organisational skills, efficient workload management and ability to prioritise.      

  • Demonstrated understanding of hospital food service systems and how to work effectively with food service staff.
