• Full time, fixed term position working 40 hours per week (including ADO) until 27 February 2026 

• Located across all sites: Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, Heidelberg Repatriation Centre in Heidelberg, and Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre in Kew. 

• Pay range as per AJ1-AJ4 classification $47.81-54.10 per hour+ salary packaging + super + higher qualification allowance if applicable.

About the Nutrition and Dietetics Department 

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department is part of the Allied Health division, which employs over 1,000 health professionals across 27 disciplines, broadly known as the therapies and sciences, who work as key members of the multidisciplinary team aiming to provide the best outcomes for patients via preventing, diagnosing and treating a range of healthcare conditions.  

Our department has around 55 staff members across three sites - Austin (acute care), Repat (sub-acute care) and Talbot (rehabilitation), providing services to inpatients, outpatients and home & community programs.  We operate as one department and come together for staff meetings and continuing education. Our work environment is vibrant and fast paced and we are a friendly and supportive team. We have many highly skilled and experienced dietitians who lead our clinical teams - specialist medicine, oncology, surgical/ICU/gastro, paediatrics and mental health, sub-acute and ambulatory care, and portfolios - staff education, quality, research, student training, food service, nutrition support and workforce operations.  

About the role 

In this role, you will provide clinical backfill when Dietitians take leave. You work across all clinical areas and sites, with training and support provided for areas that are new/less familiar to you. Clinical work areas include renal, general medicine, spinal, respiratory, neurosurgery, cardiology, stroke, neurology, endocrinology, ICU, GI surgery, gastroenterology, ENT, liver transplant, medical oncology, radiotherapy, haematology, geriatric medicine. rehabilitation, general paediatrics, paediatric eating disorders, adult mental health and eating disorders. You will get exposure to multiple clinical areas with the added benefit of support that working in our large and dynamic department brings. 

Your work allocation is usually done a month ahead but can change at short notice if our staffing changes.  You will work under the direction of the Grade 4 workforce operations lead, and daily under the direction of an allocated team leader. You will participate in clinical supervision, department meetings and department-wide activities. A regular day will see you confirming your work allocation in the morning, communicating with your team leader/s about work allocation and work status across the day, seeing patients and using clinical systems. 

About you 

You will be flexible, have excellent problem solving and time management skill as well as the ability to work independently whilst also creating positive working relationships.  You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your clinical skills in a variety of areas.  

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

• Have at least three years' experience in a large, fast-paced hospital environment.   

• Have experience in a range of clinical areas and settings 

• Have good problem-solving skills, resourcefulness and ability to work independently  

• Be enthusiastic, self-motivated, reflective and willing to learn  

• Be hardworking with exemplar organisational skills including efficient workload management and ability to prioritise   

• Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive working relationships.
