About Radiation Oncology
As a world-class clinical care and research facility that promotes the philosophy of wellness through its programs, model of care and building design, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre provides a unique working environment for health professionals. Austin Health also provides radiotherapy services to the Western District of Victoria through its collaboration with the Ballarat Health Service via the Ballarat-Austin Radiotherapy Centre (BAROC).

Currently we provide service to our patients with 6 linacs, dedicated MRI & CT simulators; Monaco & Oncentra planning systems, Mim Maestro, Mosaiq & ARIA OIS, along with Brachytherapy (Flexitron) and Superficial services (T200/T105) along with numerous other equipment to support optimal patient care. The service is committed to expanding its capability and developing future technological modalities.
About the role
This role is a joint clinical/management role requiring a level of technical skills, organisation and interpersonal competence of a high standard.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support the Medical Physics Manager in maintaining a competitive and high-standard Radiation Oncology program at Austin Health. The role involves coordinating multi-disciplinary strategies and service delivery within Radiotherapy and developing strong working relationships with key stakeholders through clear communication and collaboration.
Key responsibilities include:
- Demonstrating leadership by setting clear expectations, building trust, and fostering a cooperative work environment.
- Promoting staff performance through feedback, coaching, and identifying professional development opportunities.
- Implementing strategies for staff retention, team cohesion, and mentoring.
- Ensuring quality and safety standards are maintained to high standards within Radiation Oncology Medical Physics.
- Overseeing daily operational tasks such as staff management, rostering, and attendance.
About you
The successful candidate will actively contribute to maintaining a high-performing, collaborative, and supportive team culture. They will be an initiative-taking and positive communicator, consistently sharing relevant information and providing strong support to leadership.
You’ll further have:
- Recognized as a Qualified Medical Physics Specialist (Radiation Oncology) by the ACPSEM
- Holder of a higher degree in Medical Physics with significant recent clinical experience across the equipment and technology in use at Austin Health
- Licensed under the Medical Physicist pathway with the DH Victoria for the purpose of radiation oncology
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics services and new technology aligned with the purpose and accountabilities of the position
- Well-developed leadership skills and experience in managing teams
