About Day Oncology

The Day Oncology unit of 21 treatment chairs, 2 beds and 4 Day Oncology at Home Cars, is a Monday to Friday ambulatory cancer service, providing expert nursing care and support for patients and their families. Patients are supported through their journey via the nurse consultant-led Symptom and Urgent Review Clinic. Nursing care is provided with the support of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, including specialist medical (oncology and haematology), pharmacy, allied health staff, the ONJ Wellness Centre and administrative staff.  

 

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly experienced cancer nurse to join the Day Oncology team 0.84EFT as the Patient Flow Nurse Coordinator. 

The Patient Flow Nurse Coordinator (PFNC) is responsible for the coordination of care for all patents referred to Day Oncology for systemic cancer therapies and supportive care. The responsibility of the PFNC is to receive and triage referrals, booking requests and change to treatment requests and to ensure that patients have timely access to treatment and that their ongoing care needs within Day Oncology are coordinated in line with their treatment plan

 

About you

As the Patient Flow Coordinator in Day Oncology/Apheresis, you will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

  • Significant experience working in cancer nursing particularly in an ambulatory cancer service, ideally a Day Oncology
  • Have or be working towards a relevant post graduate qualification
  • Chemotherapy accreditation including providing patient education 
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to negotiate and be flexible 
  • Experience in utilizing information technology to optimize patient care, including electronic medical record systems, clinical systems, and business software
