About Clinical Haematology, Cancer Research Operations & ONJ  Clinical Haematology Department   

Austin Clinical Haematology provides comprehensive services to all the campuses of Austin Health. It is located within the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Cancer Centre), at the Austin Hospital. Haematology areas include Day Oncology, Apheresis, Outpatient Clinics and an Inpatient Ward. The unit has a close association with the Cancer Clinical Trials Centre, the Oliva Newton-John Cancer Research Institute and the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre.     

Cancer Services   

Austin Health is one of the largest cancer services providers in Victoria. A complete range of services are provided to patients and their families, including medical oncology, clinical haematology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, cancer genetics, palliative medicine and wellness and supportive care programs. These services are provided in the ONJ Cancer Centre.   

Research in the ONJ Centre   

The ONJ Cancer Centre has a strong and varied research focus that is recognised nationally and internationally. This significant focus extends into all clinical services and specialties, integrating a broad range of research activities into multidisciplinary cancer care, and the management of benign conditions.  This includes scientific research, clinical drug and non-drug trials, clinical practice research, disease specific registry management, audit activities and supportive care research. It involves medical, nursing, allied health, and other related disciplines.   

About the role 

This is a fixed term position until 30 June 2027. This position is working with the Clinical Haematology Department at Austin Health. The Data Entry Officer will assist the Clinical Haematology Clinicians with the maintenance and population of a number of registries and databases that contribute to internal clinical operations, clinical research, and national and international quality assurance programs. This position offers an opportunity to engage closely with a friendly and supportive team of clinicians, including direct supervision with, and mentorship from, senior medical staff.  

Role specific responsibilities will see you complete data entry requirements of the Clinical Haematology Department including but not limited to:  

• Other general administrative duties as required  

• Patient registries as part of established clinical and/or research programs   

• Patient databases related to clinical audit and quality assurance   

• Data entry requirements for unit clinical operational activities

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.

• Data entry experience, including attention to detail
• Highly proficient with respect to information technology, typing and general computer skills
• Highly proficient with respect to medical knowledge
• Trustworthy, demonstrated initiative, awareness of limitations
• Understanding of health record privacy and clinical research governance frameworks
• Flexible with respect to work hours
• Ability to function well within a team
