About BDP:

The Brain Disorders Program (BDP) is a multi-component neuropsychiatry programme located on the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre at Kew specialising in the management of individuals under the age of 65 years with a brain injury or neurodegenerative conditions and associated psychiatric disorders including behavioural disturbance.

 

The Brain Disorders Program (BDP) includes the following components:

  • The Community Brain Disorder Assessment and Treatment Service (CBDATS), which provides assessment, short-term treatment and consultancy to consumers in the community.  CBDATS is currently developing its teaching and research profile within the community nationally and internationally
  • The Neuropsychiatry Outpatient Clinic is a tertiary referral neuropsychiatry assessment service, based at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital.
  • The Neurobehaviour Clinic that offers assessment and short-term follow up to patients presenting with neuropsychiatric presentation including but not limited to psychiatric assessment of patients with Parkinson’s disease for Deep Brain Stimulation

 

Brain Disorders Unit (BDU):

  • A 10-bed psychiatric rehabilitation unit (Heath Unit) specialising in medium term rehabilitation for appropriate consumers.
  • A 20 bed extended care program (Wattle/Protea Units) which is a partly Commonwealth funded interim nursing home, specialising in the provision of a secure transitional environment for more disabled members of the target population.
  • A 3 bed transitional housing facility (Step 2) as part of the community re-integration program.

  

About the role:

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Brain Disorders Programme on a permanent basis. 

We are seeking an applicant with strong interest in positive behaviour support and providing therapeutic interventions in the context of person-centred care.

About you

As the Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.

 To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Be a registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), or equivalent
  • Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Psychiatry
  • Demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care
  • Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, junior medical, nursing and other clinical staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care across the continuum, and
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching, training and research.
