About the Respiratory and Sleep Medicine/Medical & Cancer Services Division

The Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Austin Health is a leading tertiary referral service providing comprehensive respiratory and sleep medicine care across inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic, research, and statewide support programs. The department delivers specialist multidisciplinary services in lung cancer, sleep disorders, pulmonary hypertension, allergy, ventilatory failure, and chronic respiratory disease management. As a major teaching and research centre affiliated with The University of Melbourne and the Institute for Breathing and Sleep, the department is committed to excellence in patient care, education, innovation, and statewide respiratory support services.

About the role 

The Allergy Clinical Nurse Consultant provides expert clinical care, leadership and education for patients with allergic conditions within Austin Health’s Allergy Service. The role supports safe, timely and high-quality allergy testing, treatment, patient education, service coordination, staff training, quality improvement and research activities.

A regular day will see you:   

• Perform both simple and complex patient allergy testing, allergy challenge procedures (e.g. Drug, food and other) and treatment administration under strict medical instruction and rigorous checking procedures adhering to all safety protocols.
• Coordinate and manage the provision of the specialist Allergy Service to Austin Health patients.
• Perform triage of the Allergy Service booking system to ensure timely appointments and follow-up according to referral requirements and medical staff requests.
• Provide and support patient education programs for allergy, anaphylaxis and asthma management in accordance with established protocols.

You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.

To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:

• Registered Nurse registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
• Leadership experience to promote safe, high-quality, person-centred care and service excellence.
• Ability to Identify, manage and escalate clinical risk, safety and quality issues, driving continuous improvement.
• Acts as a role model for evidence-based practice, professional accountability and multidisciplinary collaboration.
