About the Colorectal Department

The Department of Colorectal Surgery is located on Level 8 of the Harold Stokes Building, Austin Hospital Campus, with clinical functions based within the Austin Tower on Ward 8 East and The Surgery Centre (TSC) at the Repatriation Campus.

 

About the role

The Stomal Therapy Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) provides expert, evidence‑based nursing care and clinical leadership to patients requiring stoma formation and complex stomal management across inpatient and outpatient settings. Working within the Austin Health Stomal Therapy and Colorectal teams, the CNC delivers advanced clinical assessment, pre‑operative counselling and siting, post‑operative education, and ongoing management of complex stomas, enterocutaneous fistulae, wounds and drains. The role includes leading nurse‑led clinics, contributing to multidisciplinary care planning, supporting complex discharges, and providing education and consultation to patients, families, clinicians, and community partners. The CNC also plays a key role in service development, quality improvement, research translation, and professional nursing leadership to optimise patient outcomes and ensure high standards of care.

  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. 
  • Demonstration of innovative leadership skills and initiatives.
  • Excellent organisation, time-management skills and attention to detail. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability.
