About Waste Services

The Waste Services Team operates under the Sustainability department within the Support Services Division. The in-house service is responsible for the collection, movement and management of Austin Health’s waste streams including general, recycling and clinical waste. The team also plays a key role in reducing waste and identifying and implementing new initiatives. 

 

About the role 

Waste Services operates is responsible for providing services and support to Austin Health staff to create a healthier environment for healthier people. Primarily the role involves oversite and management of waste collection services across Austin Health sites, increasing staff awareness and participation of sustainability initiatives: and developing, supporting, and implementing strategies to achieve incremental reduction of environmental impacts. This is a casual position.

 

A regular day will see you: 

  • Collect and move waste from key collection points (may including driving Austin Health operated vehicles).
  • Internal and External stakeholder engagement
  • Contribute to initiatives and programs that result in waste cost savings, maximising efficiency and effectiveness and elevating staff awareness and education
  • Assist Austin Health to achieve its waste management targets

To be successful in this role, you will bring with you: 

  • Ability to work unsupervised 
  • Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative 
  • Knowledge of waste generation processes 
  • Demonstrated understanding of hospital environments, including clinical areas and management structures
  • Truck - Medium rigid license (desirable but not essential)
