About the Business Intelligence Unit
The Performance & Reporting team is part of the Business Intelligence Unit (BIU) and supports the operational areas of Austin Health with detailed dashboards and analytics. In the medium term, the team is engaged in a large data warehouse project, which involves redesigning and redeveloping reports, validating new data tables, and conducting UAT testing as part of the rebuild process to ensure effective integration and functionality. Long-term goals focus on advancing data capabilities, with a keen interest in moving towards advanced analytics and statistical analysis projects.
About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Intelligence Developer with strong Power BI development skills to join our team at Austin Health. As we undertake a major rebuild of our data warehouse and enhance our reporting processes, we need a skilled individual who can provide accurate and timely analysis and develop interactive Power BI dashboards and reports. The role involves collaborating with team members and stakeholders to deliver effective activity, performance, quality and safety analytics. This position reports to the Performance and Reporting Manager.
A regular day will see you:
- Contribute to timely strategic and business reporting at a whole of organisational level. This includes monthly board reports and CEO scorecards.
- Conduct user acceptance testing for the new data warehouse and reconciliation of externally produced reports, including extensive validations and testing scenarios to ensure data integrity and performance.
- Design and develop new, interactive dashboards to meet evolving business needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data requirements and business rules, translating these into actionable insights and reporting solutions.
- Address ad hoc data requests, providing timely and accurate information as needed.
About you
You are someone who is passionate about leveraging business intelligence tools to drive improvements in patient care. You are skilled in understanding and addressing stakeholder needs, translating business requirements into effective data solutions. Your analytical mindset and attention to detail ensure that you consistently deliver high-quality, accurate, and actionable insights. You excel in using business intelligence tools, particularly Power BI, to create user-friendly reports and dashboards that drive informed decision-making.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise at all levels of the organization
- Analytical & problem-solving skills with good attention to detail
- Strong SQL programming skills with demonstrated experience in building complex queries
- Strong Power BI skills with demonstrated experience in developing meaningful and useful paginated reports and dashboards.
- Strong knowledge with using business intelligence tools and concepts
- Experience in working with large complex data sets
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Good organisational, time management, written and verbal skills
- Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in an appropriate health field
Desirable but not essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or Statistics
- Experience in the health sector
- Understanding of Victorian public health activity-based funding models
- Knowledge of tabular models and DAX
