We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our goal to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.
About The Department of Anaesthesia
Austin Health is recognised for high-quality, person-centred care. We're renowned for our specialist work in cancer, transplantation, infectious diseases, obesity, sleep medicine, intensive care medicine, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.
We're the largest Victorian provider of training for specialist physicians and surgeons and internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in hospital-based research. Our services are delivered to patients across four main sites in Melbourne, in locations across our community, in people's homes, and within regional hospitals across Victoria.
We aim to provide an inclusive culture where all staff can contribute to the best of their ability and strive to develop further. We recognise that our people are our greatest strength. We want them to thrive, be their best selves and feel engaged, safe and empowered. To achieve this, diversity and inclusion is essential to our culture and our values.
Anaesthesia services are provided by the Department of Anaesthesia at both the Austin and Repat sites, with the department based on Level 2 of the Austin Tower. The department includes a diverse team of medical, nursing, and administrative staff, and supports anaesthesia across 11 theatres, 2 endoscopy suites, and 2 procedure rooms in the Harold Stokes building, as well as in Radiology and the Cardiology Cath Lab. The Repatriation Campus houses the Surgery Centre, an elective surgery facility with 8 theatres and independent anaesthesia leadership, although administrative support comes from the Austin Campus.
Most surgical specialties, except for obstetrics and complex paediatric surgery, are undertaken at the Austin and are covered by the Department. Surgical specialties include thoracic, cardiac, neurosurgery, hepatobiliary, upper GI, colorectal, general, orthopaedic, ENT, plastics, maxillofacial, ophthalmology, urology, gynaecology and vascular.
