About the Mental Health Division

Our Mental Health Division has a dynamic and friendly team with excellent academic, education and research programs. Our consultants are committed to registrar development, and we have a reputation for supporting registrars to successfully progress through the RANZCP Fellowship Program and multiple advanced training certificates.

 

As one of the largest mental health services in Victoria, Austin Health’s Mental Health Division is able to provide senior trainees with a comprehensive training experience, including access to one of the widest range of subspecialty programs anywhere in Victoria.

 

Along with a broad range of training opportunities in general adult mental health, registrars have access to terms in parent-infant psychiatry, eating disorders, a comprehensive consultation-liaison service with an associated neuropsychiatric service, and extensive services for children, youth and families.  Dual-accredited posts are available across multiple advanced training programs, as well as multiple opportunities to develop skills in supervision and leadership for registrars transitioning to Fellowship. 

 

About the role

This position is suitable for candidates who have been accepted into either the RACP Addiction Medicine Advanced Training Program, or the RANZCP Advanced Training Certificate in Addiction Psychiatry.  All rotations are fully accredited for both programs and supervision and training support is available.  

 

The Advanced Trainee in Addiction is a clinical role providing addiction expertise to support consumers with alcohol and other drug related difficulties within Austin Health and in the broader community, and offers a uniquely broad addiction training experience.  The role is divided between outpatient clinics, providing clinical (including pharmacotherapy) care, hospital-based consultation-liaison services, and the statewide Hamilton Centre, providing community consultation, mental health in-reach (including to adolescent mental health services), and support for the Mercy Hospital for Women and for the Curran Place residential withdrawal program. 

 

About you

As the Advanced Trainee in Addiction, You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring with you:

  • Registration as a Medical Practitioner with Australian Registration (AHPRA registration)
  • Acceptance into the RACP Advanced Training Program in Addiction Medicine, or the RANZCP Advanced Training Certificate in Addiction Psychiatry
  • A demonstrated commitment to high quality patient care
  • Excellent communication skills, with consumers, carers and colleagues
  • Capability and interest in learning, teaching and research
